Al Khor Resort to house 80,000 people

The Al Khor Resort project that was unveiled recently by the Qatari property developer Barwa Real Estate company is intended to meet the demand for accommodation of some 80,000 people to be employed in the oil and gas industry in the next five years, according to the company officials.

“There is a need to develop the unique Al Khor area with its distinctive environment and long coast line in view of the expected increase in population in the nearby Ras Laffan because of the ever expanding oil and gas industry”, said Ghanem Saad Al Saad at a workshop here on Tuesday.

He said that currently approximately 98 per cent of those employed in the oil and gas industry in the area live in Doha due to lack of facilities such schools, markets and recreational facilities which also create additional difficulties for transportation to and from Ras Laffan.

The Barwa Al Khor Company with a capital of QR250m, was especially created to develop the necessary infrastructure of the 8 million square metres area. Barwa Real Estate Company also entered into partnership with Kuwaiti firm Al Imtiaz for Investment Company and Qatar Real Estate Investment Company for the development of this particular project.

Yusef Ahmed Al Hamadi, Executive Director of Barwa Al Khor said the tourist and a residential community development project which spreads over a beachfront strip North of Al Khor City comprises chalets, villas, commercial complex and recreational facilities.

He said the Al Khor project would sell plots of land with all the necessary design and layout ready for construction to Qataris and buyers of any nationality.

Al Khor to have luxurious hypermarket soon

Doha: Sheikh Abdullah bin Ahmed bin Jassem Al Thani and Ibrahim Mohammed Al Jaidah of the Arab Engineering Establishment have signed a consultancy agreement to build a luxury state-of-the-art and one of the largest hypermarkets in Al Khor, North of Doha to be completed by the end of next year.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Sheikh Abdullah bin Ahmed said there was a need to develop the area and build such a mega project which would provide all modern facilities, such as restaurants, department stores and entertainment under one roof.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Ahmed also pointed out that the Al Khor area which has been witnessing major developments in recent years due to gas and hydrocarbon projects being implemented in the area, will now have one of the most luxurious and largest hypermarkets.

Buildings in the project are to cover a total of 12,000 sq. meters from a 30,000 sq. meters area, which also include a family shopping center to be built on a 1,5000 sq. meters. The project will also include two branches of leading local banks, 19 shopping outlets, a cinema theatre, restaurants, fast-foods and a two-storey administrative building.

The project will also provide a special playing area for children with all necessary services for their care and also a parking plot for over 400 vehicles. A residential complex comprising 20 three and four-bedroom villas will also come up as part of the project and will include, a swimming pool, a social club, sports grounds and entertainment units.
